Who to root for?

Jan 24 2010

This weekend is ‘Division Championship Weekend’ in the NFL.  There are only four teams left and four possible outcomes.  Since my team, the Carolina Panthers, are not involved I don’t have a dog in this fight.  So here is a quick look at the four possible storylines that are attached with each of the four possible match ups.

Possible Super Bowl Match-ups:

Saints vs Colts

Native son Peyton Manning returns to his second Super Bowl to face off against his hometown team for whom his father (Hall of Famer Archie Manning) lead for 11 years.  Meanwhile the New Orleans Saints try to lift the spirits of an entire community still rebuilding post-Katrina.

Jets vs Vikings

The NY Jets with their rookie coach Rex Ryan and their rookie QB Mark Sanchez lead the Jets back to the Super Bowl for the first time in 41 years, where they will face off against their ex-quarterback, Brett Farve.  Future Hall of Famer, Farve is now 40 years old and looking to end his long, storied career with a championship ring.

Vikings vs Colts

Here we would see two Hall of Fame quarterbacks go head to head against each other.  Brett Farve and Peyton Manning both lead high powered offenses that could end in a shoot out between two of the game’s greatest passers.

Jets vs Saints

The Jets and their crushing defense (ranked #1 in the league) would go up against the Saints, who held the #1 offense in the league this season.  A battle of wills where anything could happen.
